Buddha Story (Part 1)

About two thousand five hundred years ago (2552) in North India, at the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains, there were a number of little kingdoms, each ruled over by its own Raja or King. One of these kingdoms was the land of the Sakya. The King name of Sakya was Suddhodana. The king lived in the capital city, called Kapilavastu, on the Nepal frontier.

In Asalahaboocha day, the Queen Siri Mahamaya, donate lots of things to the people as usual, she ate neatly foods, and have eight precepts as her routines life. That night, the Queen Siri Mahamaya had a very strange dream; “In her dream, there was four greatest angles came in her room and invited her and carried her to ‘Himalaya forest’ and put her down on a large rock under sala tree, then lots of angel asked her to take a bath in Anodart lake, the angels apply her body with perfumed and decorate her with beautiful flowers, after all the angels finished helped the Queen bathing, then they invited the Queen to go to sleep in the golden palace that stayed on the top of the silver mountain, and on that time she saw a white elephant walking down from the golden mountain into the room, carrying a beautiful white lotus that giving a great smell all over the palace. An elephant trumpeted as it walked round her bed three times and disappear to the right side of her stomach.

After the Queen woke up in the morning, she told about her dream to the king. The king summoned the wise men of the land to the palace, to find out the meaning of this dream.

“ Oh, King! A great noble son will born to your Queen” they said. The King and Queen were very happy.

When the baby was due, according to the custom at the time, the Queen asked the King if she could visit her parents in the neighboring kingdom. The King readily granted her wish and ordered that everything possible should be done to make the journey pleasant.

In the morning of Visaka day, she was carried in a royal golden litter and was accompanied by many attendants all beautifully dressed and sparkling with jewels. On the way they had to pass a forest and some lovely gardens called Lumbini Park. When the Queen arrived at this delightful place, she would like to rest for a while and look around at that beautiful park. So, the Queen people that came with her, setup a place for the Queen under Sal tree in the peaceful Lumpini Park. So, while she relaxing and enjoying beauty of the park, she started contractions and give birth to a beautiful son there under the Sal tree.

On the time, the baby come out, the four Brahma from haven carried a baby with golden net, the water pouring down from the air onto the Queen body and the baby body to clean them both, after that they handed to other four angel (Tow Jatuloakabal) and then to the women from the palace, after that the baby stand up by himself and looked around to ten direction and he saw no one have merit as him, so then he turned his face to the North side and walked seven steps, in each step he walked has a lotus flower rise up to support under his feet as he walked.

The whole party returned to Kapilavastu, where the new prince was greeted with great rejoicing.

One of the first visitors to the palace after his birth was a wise Sage called Asita. On seeing the baby, he first smiled and then tears began to trickle down his face. The king and queen were worried. “ Will any harm come to our son?”

“Oh, no, you’re Majesties” the sage replied.

“Your son wil be extremely fortunate. I’m smiling because I’m very lucky to see him, who is no ordinary human being. He will be most unusual. In fact, he will become a Buddha one day, a fully Enlightened one, who will teach the whole world how to find true happiness and relief from sorrow. I’m old now and shall not live to see that day, that’s why I’m sad.”

The king was not altogether happy at what he heard. He invited more learned and wise men to the palace, eight of them for the naming ceremony of his child. They studied special markings on the body of the baby. Seven of them said that he would one day become a great Emperor, or indeed a Buddha. But the eighth sage, whose name was Kondanna was very definite that the Prince would one day see four special signs and give up his palace and family. He would lead the simple life of an ascetic in meditation and become a Buddha.

The king was very upset when they heard this. The baby was named Siddhartha, which means ‘the one whose wishes will be fulfilled’ and the family name was Gotama.

Seven days after the birth of the Prince, Queen Siri Mahamaya passed away. And she was reborn in Dusita heaven. The Queen Sister, Prajapathi Gotami, nursed and care for him as if he were her own, and who would one day become the first Bhikkhuni .
